Get Silly on a Saturday Morning
When my alarm went off at 7:00 am, I routinely put on my teaching dress and got into the mental state for my workday. After about five minutes, I realized it was Saturday and it was time to ditch the teaching dress and put on my neon attire. It was time to get silly and dance, dance, dance.
Once I walked up to The Edge, for the Get Silly Sober Rave #2, I was covered in glitter automatically. The darling “angels,” who are wonderful volunteers, made each person feel special as they entered the venue. Hugs, sparkles, streamers, and gems were given out by the masses.
After walking into a glittery wonderland, it was time for breakfast. FRUIT PULSE Healthy Juice Bar provided delicious acai bowls and smoothies to keep us energised. I always consider dancing an exercise, but this time it really counted. Instead of alcohol sloshing in your stomach, it was replaced with an acai bowl, actually giving me energy. What a concept, you nailed it Rodney!
Rodney Cullen is our good friend in Chiang Mai who is the co-owner of Overstand Coffee Shop. He recently created Cereal Ravers, who is the first to start sober raves in Chiang Mai. This was his second Get Silly Sober Rave and it's already surpassed the first in the best ways possible.
This event couldn’t have gone on without the amazing DJs, Lucid Picnic & DJ Chrisp, giving us the beats to make our Saturday morning worthwhile.
Get Silly is unlike any event I’ve ever attended. It has the same loving energy as a music festival, but it provides something more. It filters out anyone who's at a festival for the substances. It allows people from all walks of life to feel safe to be themselves. It allows everyone to show their true colors and oh boy, everyone did. The place was a rainbow of welcoming faces and crazy happy people. The entire world needs to experience a sober rave and we were sure to send our energy to places that need it the most. We can't wait for the next one. Until next time, Cereal Ravers!
